Candifloss - Lyric
Still putting to finishing touches to this track. The draft lyric is below..,
Verse 1 -
She faces the sun,
Warm wind on her skin,
Home for the last time,
Illness within
And she smiles, always smiles
Back garden fairy lights lead her away from dark hidden corners
where anguish plays in her mind
And she smiles.
Bridge 1
In her heart
In her soul
She’s not fighting
In her mind
In her dreams
She remembers dancing
and laughter
but for now
It is time
to go home
Home to the one who will always be around
Verse 2
She remembers sitting on a deckchair on a beach
then Trampolines, bouncing, sand in her pockets
Playing with a child who would grow to become taller than she ever was.
Grey skies and slate sea, salty feet slow to dry
Her socks in her handbag, stick of rock for the ride home
Then she sleeps.
Can you hear me?
Chorus 1
Lollipop hair and candy floss kisses x 2
Enjoy the ride, there’s only one more station
We’re all here with lolly pop hair and Candy floss.
Verse 3
Every day seems a bit shorter
Every night seems a bit colder
In every way
We’re all a bit older than yesterday
Now she’s gone, Far away
You can choose what you like
back garden fairy lights
or spend all your time in the shade
We’re not what we wish
We’re all that we made
This song is dedicated to the memory of my mother in law (Theresa) who recently passed away after a very long battle with cancer. Much of the imagery came from photographs of her as a younger woman and from my memories of her since i first met her when I was about 15 years old. She will be missed.
The lyric will change as it is woven into the song. Lyrics do. It is this part of the song process I always find the hardest. Trying to capture a message, an emotion within the confines of rhythm and harmony is never easy for me.
With this track the main message I was trying to convey was to focus on the good times.
Theresa had a long, full and challenging life. It started in the post war era in the Glasgow Tenements but improved with time. she was the matriarch of our family and one over-riding trait was she loved a party and a glass of red.
She died in our family home surrounded by her nearest and dearest. Towards the end and at her request we put her bed in the garden so she could feel the sun on her face and the breeze in her hair. Her last night was spent under a clear star filled sky.
